I was recently reading a friend's blog where he discussed receiving a postcard from his hometown of Kindersley, Saskatchewan:

There's so much going on on this postcard, just like there is going on in Kindersley, that you may find yourself disoriented and confused after glancing upon it. Don't worry. It'll pass... eventually. I suggest looking at postcards of Rosetown to calm you down.

Ohhhh SNAP!!
This man has lived outside of Kindersley for approximately ten years, yet he still has that "Kindersley pride deep inside".

Maybe this is just because I did my clincial and social psychology lab project on in-group/out-group bias, but it got me thinking how, for every community, real or fictional, there seems to be a "nemesis" community which it's citizens love to hate.

I come from Cando, Saskatchewan. We had, and for all I know, still have, a rivalry with Biggar. (Those smug bunch of ... with their "New York" sign and their Milo Hanson buck ... they think they're so "bigg".)

In Cando, we have no benches. We're too busy working for a living.

Saskatoon has Regina ...

Calgary has Edmonton ...

"The Simpsons" Springfield has Shelbyville ...

The citizens of Dog River can't say "Woolerton" without spitting: this apparently relates to the real life rivalry of "Corner Gas" star Brent Butt's hometown of Tisdale and nearby *ptui!* Melfort.

It goes right back to Biblical times, when Nathaneal asks Philip, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?"

In that case, the answer was "yes", but technically, Jesus was from "out of town" ...
